Understanding insurance coverage can feel overwhelming, especially when oral surgery is involved. At Implant & Oral Surgery of Columbus, our team works closely with patients to help navigate insurance questions and support a smooth financial experience. Clear communication and transparency are part of how we care for you, from consultation through recovery.
Because oral surgery procedures may involve both dental and medical components, coverage can vary depending on your plan. Our administrative team is available to help explain how your benefits may apply and to assist with claim submission as a courtesy.
How Insurance Works for Oral Surgery
Professional services are rendered directly to you, the patient. Insurance coverage is based on the terms of your individual policy and the agreement between you and your insurance company. Our role is to help you understand potential coverage and to submit claims accurately and promptly.
Oral surgery procedures are sometimes covered by:
- Dental insurance.
- Medical insurance.
- A combination of both, depending on diagnosis and procedure type.
Coverage determinations are ultimately made by the insurance provider, not the surgeon’s office.
What to Bring to Your Consultation
To help expedite reimbursement and avoid delays, please bring your insurance information to your initial visit. This allows our team to review your plan and assist with the claims process.
Helpful information includes:
- Medical and dental insurance cards
- The name and address of your insurance company
- Whether your plan requires a referral or predetermination
- Confirmation of whether your procedure falls under medical or dental coverage
- Information for any secondary insurance, if applicable
If you have more than one insurance plan, please let us know which carrier is primary.
Payments and Insurance Processing
A down payment deposit will be requested and applied to your account on the day of surgery. The amount is determined during your initial visit and is based on factors such as your deductible and estimated insurance coverage.
After your procedure:
- Insurance claims are submitted promptly
- Any overpayment to your account is refunded
- Remaining balances not covered by insurance are your responsibility
If insurance payment has not been received within 60 days, a statement will be issued and payment in full is expected at that time.

This list is subject to change and is not exhaustive. Our team is happy to help verify participation based on your plan.
Medicare and Medicaid
Our office does not participate with Medicaid and does not accept Medicaid insurance.
We also do not participate with Medicare. Medicare does not provide benefits for dental surgery. If a Medicare patient chooses to be seen at our office, payment is due in full at the time of service. Services cannot be billed to Medicare or to a Medicare secondary insurance.
