      New Patient Information

At Implant & Oral Surgery of Columbus, our goal is to make your first visit feel clear, calm, and well supported. From consultation through recovery, every step is designed around patient comfort, communication, and safety.

This page outlines what new patients can expect, how to prepare for a consultation, and how our team helps guide you through care with confidence.

What to Expect at Your First Visit

Your initial appointment is a consultation focused on understanding your needs and outlining appropriate treatment options. During this visit, your diagnosis, imaging, and recommended care are reviewed in detail so you can make informed decisions at your own pace.

In some cases, surgery may be performed the same day as your consultation when treatment is straightforward and performed under local anesthesia. More complex medical histories or treatment plans typically require a separate surgical visit to allow for careful planning and coordination.

Throughout your visit, questions are encouraged. Clear explanations and open communication are a priority from the start.

      Your Consultation with Dr. Patel

During your consultation, Dr. Chintan Patel will review your condition, explain the recommended procedure, discuss potential risks, and answer any concerns you may have. The goal is to ensure you understand what to expect before, during, and after treatment.

Many patients share that this conversation helps ease anxiety by replacing uncertainty with clarity. Taking time to explain care thoroughly is a key part of how trust is built and maintained.

      Preparing for Your Appointment

To help your visit run smoothly, please bring the following to your consultation:

      • Any referral information provided by your dentist or physician.
      • Recent x-rays or imaging, if available.
      • A current list of medications and supplements.
      • Dental and medical insurance information, if applicable.
      • A valid photo ID

Patients under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian, who will remain present during the visit.

Providing this information ahead of time allows our team to focus fully on your care rather than paperwork.

      Medical History and Anesthesia Planning

Patients considering IV sedation or general anesthesia will complete a preoperative consultation and medical review prior to surgery. This includes a physical evaluation and discussion of current medications to support safe anesthesia planning.

Please notify our office in advance if you have medical conditions such as diabetes, high blood pressure, heart conditions, joint replacements, or if you take medications such as blood thinners or aspirin. Sharing this information early helps prevent delays and supports the safest possible care.

      X-Rays and Diagnostic Imaging

If your dentist or physician has taken x-rays, you may request that they be sent to our office ahead of your visit. If that is not possible, you are welcome to bring them with you.

When additional imaging is needed, advanced digital radiography may be completed in-office. Three-dimensional imaging allows for detailed evaluation of the jaw, teeth, nerves, and sinus anatomy, supporting accurate diagnosis and thoughtful treatment planning. Panoramic x-rays taken within the past year may also be accepted if they meet quality requirements.

A Team Focused on Comfort and Communication

From the front desk to the surgical suite, patients consistently describe our team as professional, kind, and attentive. Many also note how clearly instructions are explained and how supported they feel before and after treatment.

Personal follow-up after surgery is an important part of care. Checking in helps ensure recovery is progressing comfortably and reassures patients that support continues beyond the appointment itself.

      Here to Support Your Care

If you have questions about an upcoming visit, surgical planning, or what to expect before or after treatment, our team is here to help. Clear communication and patient comfort are always a priority at Implant & Oral Surgery of Columbus.
